Equine-assisted counselling offers a unique, gentle approach to emotional healing and personal growth through connection with horses and nature. These sessions are person-centered and supported by the calming, reflective presence of horses. Horses respond to emotion, energy, and body language, helping bring awareness to patterns that may be difficult to access through talk therapy alone.

Unlike traditional indoor therapy settings, equine-assisted counselling takes place in nature—where movement, presence, and connection with horses can gently support insight and healing. Many clients find it easier to access emotions, feel present in their bodies, and experience calm through this kind of experiential work.

Sessions take place on a quiet horse farm in Lake Country, BC and being with and working with horses on the on the ground only (no riding). There is no expectation of horse-riding skill or experience. All interactions are guided, intentional, and paced to suit each individual.

Equine-assisted counselling is a supportive, experiential approach and is not a substitute for emergency mental health care or medical treatment.

Equine Assisted Counselling sessions are facilitated by Anna Scott.

Anna Scott is a counsellor, facilitator, and creator of nature-based and equine-assisted experiences that support emotional wellbeing, personal growth, and connection.

With a background in counselling and human development, Anna’s work focuses on helping people slow down, reconnect with themselves, and build emotional awareness in a world that often feels fast, disconnected, and overwhelming. She believes that meaningful change happens through safe relationships, embodied experience, and connection to nature.

Anna’s approach is grounded in the understanding that wellbeing is deeply influenced by nervous system regulation, relational safety, and the environments we spend time in. Whether working with individuals, families, or groups, her focus is on creating calm, supportive spaces where people can explore emotions, build resilience, and reconnect with a sense of self.

Through Barn Buddies and equine-assisted counselling, she integrates nature and horses as part of the therapeutic process—offering opportunities for reflection, insight, and grounding through experiential, relational work rather than traditional talk-only approaches.

Her work is informed by trauma-aware and attachment-based perspectives, drawing on leading voices in psychology and human development, including practitioners such as Vanessa Lapointe, Gordon Neufeld, and Gabor Maté.

At the heart of her practice is a simple belief: when people feel safe, seen, and connected, healing and growth naturally follow.

  • "Equine-assisted environments offer a non judgemental, calming space where connection, trust and emotional healing can emerge. "
